Ngày 13/5, Elon Musk đưa ra thông báo sẽ tạm hoãn thương vụ trị giá 44 tỷ USD mua lại Twitter. Nguyên nhân là do ông muốn thống kê chính xác về số lượng tài khoản giả mạo có trên nền tảng này.
Trong một báo cáo gần đây, Twitter tiết lộ rằng có một số tài khoản giả mạo và spam trên nền tảng của họ. Tuy nhiên, Musk và nhóm của ông đã bày tỏ sự nghi ngờ về tính chính xác đối với các con số mà Twitter đưa ra.

Musk cũng cho biết rằng ông sẽ chọn 100 tài khoản làm kích thước mẫu đối với nghiên cứu của mình vì đây là con số mà Twitter đã sử dụng để thực hiện các tính toán trong báo cáo trước đó.
Dustin Moskovitz, đồng sáng lập Facebook, cho rằng cách tiếp cận của Musk không thực sự ngẫu nhiên, sử dụng một mẫu với kích thước quá nhỏ và có nhiều sai sót.
Trong khi đó, Christopher Bouzy, người sáng lập và Giám đốc điều hành BotSentinel, cho biết phân tích của công ty ông chỉ ra rằng khoảng 10-15% tài khoản trên Twitter có khả năng là “không xác thực”, bao gồm tài khoản giả mạo, spam hoặc lừa đảo.

Carl T. Bergstrom, giáo sư tại Đại học Washington, cho rằng việc lấy mẫu 100 người bất kỳ theo dõi tài khoản Twitter không được coi là quá trình “thẩm định” để thực hiện một thương vụ mua lại trị giá 44 tỷ USD. Theo CNBC, lý do thực sự khiến Musk tạm ngừng giao dịch mua Twitter là do ông muốn nền tảng này giảm giá bán.
“Đây có thể là chiến thuật đàm phán của Musk”, Toni Sacconaghi, chuyên gia phân tích tại Bernstein, nhận định. Sacconaghi cho rằng thị trường đã giảm mạnh và Musk muốn sử dụng chiêu bài này để thương lượng lại.

Tuy nhiên, việc thị trường chứng khoán bị bán tháo khiến Twitter mất hơn 9 tỷ USD vốn hóa không được coi là lý do hợp lệ để Musk cắt lỗ.
